Built by businessman João Alves de Queiroz Filho, who had earlier co-founded seasoning brand Arisco with his father and sold it to Bestfoods in 2000. He repurchased Assolan (a steel-wool business Unilever didn't want) and grew it via dozens of acquisitions into Hypermarcas, a diversified consumer-goods conglomerate later refocused purely on pharmaceuticals and renamed Hypera Pharma.
